Mandatory Qualifications
Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.

About the Business
HIVE Academy Preschool is a full-time, in-home preschool operating Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. We serve up to 12 children daily, ages 2 to 5, focusing on a play-based learning approach that encourages exploration and creativity. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment where children can develop essential skills through engaging, hands-on activities.

Special Project
Project Title: Plan and Run a Two-Week Summer Camp for the Preschool
As an intern at HIVE Academy Preschool, you’ll team up with our staff to create a two-week summer camp packed with fun and learning for our preschoolers. You’ll come up with cool themes, plan awesome daily activities, get everything ready, and keep families in the loop about what’s happening.
What You’ll Do:
• Pick Fun Themes:
• Work with the team to choose two exciting themes for the camp.
• Think along the lines of “Pirate Adventures,” “Jungle Safari,” or “Space Missions” to spark the kids’ imaginations.
• Plan Daily Activities:
• Design activities that match the themes, like crafts, games, and storytelling.
• Mix things up with indoor and outdoor activities to keep it balanced.
• Get Everything Ready:
• Gather all the materials you’ll need for each activity, making sure they’re safe and suitable for the kids.
• Set up activity stations and prepare any props or resources needed.
• Keep Families Informed:
• Create and distribute flyers to parents about the camp schedule, themes, and any items kids should bring (like water bottles or hats).
• Let parents know about any special dress codes or fun dress-up days.
• Work with the Team:
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure activities align with educational goals.
• Join staff meetings to discuss plans and get feedback.
