Mandatory Qualifications

Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2024. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also viewed an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team. Responsibilities

WM will provide a comprehensive internship experience to learn about the various aspects of working for a large company that operates locally. This will include working with West Sacramento WM customers to improve their recycling habits and behaviors, help the city of West Sacramento fulfill recycling participation goals, learn about garbage and recycling trucks, logistics, event planning, community events, communications, and other areas important to the sustainability goals of WM and the community.

services to the residents and businesses in West Sacramento and the region. WM is
the leading environmental solutions provider in North America and uses state of the
art technology to extract materials out of landfills and into reusable products.

Special Project

Recycling education compliance. The intern will work with our recycling education representative for West Sacramento to assist in the outreach and communications to increase organics and mixed recycling participation with measurable goals and outcomes.

Additional Information

The intern will primarily be with our recycling education and operations teams, but also exposed to various other departments within the business.

*Please note that this position is outside of West Sacramento. Interns will need to find their own transportation to and from the worksite and weekly trainings.
