Mandatory Qualifications

Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2024. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also viewed an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team. Responsibilities

Assist in content creation for various social media platforms. Support in managing and scheduling social media posts. Aid in the design of promotional materials. Provide general administrative support to the Director of Marketing & Communications. Assist in analyzing marketing data. Potentially assist in video editing projects as needed (videography/photography skills a plus!) Collaborate with Program Directors on marketing initiatives and campaigns.

About the Business

The YMCA of Superior California is a community-focused organization dedicated to promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Through various programs and initiatives, we strive to empower individuals and families to achieve a healthy life, in spirit, mind and body. The YMCA of Superior California Marketing & Communications department creates and manages all marketing campaigns, and internal/external communications for all association locations, including 4 branches, two pools, 11 school age sites, a Resident Camp, and an Early Learning Program. Duties include but are not limited to; social media and other digital media management, traditional marketing campaigns, website and intranet management, marketing data analysis, and press coverage/media.

Learning outcomes

  • Intern will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of marketing and communications, including content creation, social media management, graphic design, and data analysis.

  • Intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with members of the YMCA's Program Directors team, as well as other staff members and volunteers. Through teamwork on projects and initiatives, interns will learn effective communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, essential for success in any organizational setting.

  • Intern will gain insight into the nonprofit sector and the role of marketing in advancing organizational goals, contributing to their overall professional development and career readiness.

Special Project

Potential Project 1: Social Media Campaign Development
Objective: Develop a comprehensive social media campaign aimed at promoting a specific YMCA program
or event.

Potential Project 2: Marketing Data Analysis and Reporting
Objective: Analyze marketing data to evaluate the effectiveness of past campaigns and make
recommendations for future strategies.

Potential Project 3: Program Video Production
Objective: Produce a compelling program video showcasing the impact and benefits of
a specific YMCA program through interviews with both members and staff.

Additional Information

Combination of remote and in-person work.

*Please note that this position is outside of West Sacramento. Interns will need to find their own transportation to and from the worksite and weekly trainings.
