Mandatory Qualifications
Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.
Responsibilities
Planting, harvesting, prepping the harvest for sale (washing, bunching, packing), some animal care, potential educational work with student field trips.
About the Business
We are a mixed vegetable farm.
Preferred Abilities
Hard working, friendly, able to work in a team, able to listen and follow directions.
Learning outcomes
The intern will learn the basic expectations about working a job including being on time, properly addressing time off and sick days, following directions and staying on task.
The intern will learn about different types of vegetables including how and when to harvest, quality grading, packing requirements.
Learn about the different pests that can affect each type of plant and how to manage them.
The intern will learn proper use and care of a variety of hand tools.
Special Project
Install new hoop house structures on the farm.
Additional Information
We start early 6-7am to beat the heat once it gets hot.
This internship involves working around machinery.
