Mandatory Qualifications
Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2024. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also viewed an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team. Responsibilities
Camp Yampa:
Interns will plan, coordinate Camp Yampa activities. With the guidance of a teacher, interns will carry out games & learning activities that will engage 5-8 grade Camp Yampa participants. Interns will work with Camp Yampa participants to develop concepts & designs for a culminating performance. With supervision, interns will work with Camp Yampa participants to craft performance needs, stage and rehearse student driven music and acting performance, and aid in the culminating performance for the community. Other duties may include taking attendance, helping with lunch distribution, set-up & clean up of activities, participating in Camp Yampa planning and debriefing.
Educational Services:
Interns will be working in the Summer Break program supporting the adult staff and students in the classroom, outdoor activities, lunch supervision, and escorting students around the campus as needed. Interns will have the opportunity to lead group activities under the supervision of the adult staff member and also work with small groups of children as needed. The interns will not be in charge of a class by themselves as they will be paired with an adult at all times
About the Business
Camp Yampa:
Creative Arts in Motion Project for Young Aspiring Musicians, Performers & Artists is a
VAPA day camp for middle schoolers.
Educational Services:
The Washington Unified School District serves ~7800 students a year. The district
operates seven TK-8th grade elementary schools, one traditional high school, one
alternative high school, and one middle college high school. The district offers
expanded learning program opportunities to all WUSD students enrolled in the TK-8th
grade school sites. Our department oversees the Expanded Learning Programs which
before and after school programming as well as programming during the winter,
spring, and summer breaks. We provide homework assistance, recreation, and
enrichment activity opportunities that the students would not have had if not enrolled
in the program. During the school year, we serve ~1000 in our before and after school
programs and serve ~600 students during our break programming.
Preferred Abilities
Camp Yampa:
Only candidates that can show experience in music and art classes and/or performance experience in theatre or dance will be considered. Additional experience working with children and youth is desirable.
Educational Services:
Interns should be empathetic, passionate, fun, outgoing, self-starter, and be a good role model for the youth.

Camp Yampa:

Educational Services:
Classroom management - how to work with students and manage behaviors; how to deescalate situations with students; and positive/restorative behavior practices
Lesson Planning - develop and implement activities with students with support from the summer staff and learn how to develop a lesson plan for planning purposes
Leadership skills - learn the skill set to work and lead others in a firm and fair way while understanding the balance needed to be a leader; learn to work with others from different backgrounds; and learn to use the strengths of others
Other skills learned will be communication, time management, and patience.
Special Project
Camp Yampa:
Plan, teach, and manage daily Camp Yampa activities. Plan, produce and present a
student driven and crafted performance to the community.
Educational Services:
Interns will work to develop age/cognitive appropriate activities and implement the
activity under supervision of the staff. Interns will learn to make a lesson plan that will
help with the implementation of the activity.

Positive attitudes and comfortability with a variety of ages will be essential to comfortability and success in this internship
*** There is no work scheduled for the week of July 29th to August 2nd. However, interns should plan to attend the final celebration luncheon on August 2nd. ***
This is a two-part internship. Interns will work at Camp YAMPA from the start of the internship through early July. The second half of the internship will be with WUSD Educational Services. The hours at Educational Services will be weekdays from 7:30 am - 5:00 pm, flexible as needed.
Camp Yampa runs from June 10th-July 5th. The second half is from July 6th-July 26th.
