Responsibilities
We anticipate the intern to get involved will all aspects of our business from unloading trucks, photographing inventory, helping customers, and organizing the warehouse. There will be a fair amount of standing and moving around throughout the day with little time in front of a computer or at a desk. Our goal is to provide a varied experience for the intern to learn the many different sides of running a small business from making sure products for sale are presented nicely to having excellent customer service and safe facility. There will be direct and consistent mentorship from the 2 owners and assistant manager, providing 3 unique perspectives on how to run the same operation.
About the Business
We operate a local online auction website where customers bid on items at home and
then pick up their winnings at our warehouse in West Sacramento. We have a unique,
fast paced work environment that changes daily and includes tasks like unloading
truckloads of inventory, sorting and photographing items into categories, cataloging &
storing inventory sequentially, creating auctions, pulling orders, and assisting
customers. We also have a small retail storefront for customers to buy items.
Preferred Abilities
Motivated & eager to learn, being a team player, and not scared to get a little dirty/sweaty.
Learning outcomes
Critical thinking - how to plan ahead and anticipate regular sequences of events
Customer service - how to work with customers to build a relationship while maintaining company policies
Communication - how to elaborate individual needs, concerns, & ideas; working with customers & co-workers
Special Project
The intern will be able to participate in the full cycle of an online auction from initially receiving the inventory, to photographing items, cataloging them, seeing them sell, and then pulling the customer orders. Over the course of the internship, the intern should be able to see 8 cycles of this process occur for about 8,000 items.
Additional Information
Working in a warehouse can be cold, hot, and dirty. There are also items that may be
more than 50 pounds which will require 2 people to move. Intern should be
comfortable being in these situations for the duration of the internship.
