About the Business
The Center for Land-Based Learning (CLBL) is rooted in providing agricultural and environmental education to both high school students and adults. CLBL’s Community Food Program addresses local food access challenges by connecting farmers and communities throughout Yolo County. By making this connection, a community can work together to build a more equitable and resilient food system and increase access to fresh, healthy food. CFP outreach initiatives include the Mobile Farmers Market, Community Food Ambassador program, and Riverfront Urban Farm.
The Mobile Farmers Market operates in West Sacramento and Woodland helping to increase access to local, seasonal, sustainably-grown produce. It serves ethnically diverse, low-income neighborhoods throughout Yolo County identified as food insecure by the USDA. The market season is from May to November. There are five stops in West Sacramento on Tuesdays and Thursdays and five stops in the greater Woodland area on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Riverfront Farm was established in 2017 and serves as a demonstration urban farm. It is operated by the Center for Land-Based Learning in partnership with Fulcrum Properties and the City of West Sacramento. Located in The Bridge District, Riverfront Farm is one- third of an acre and is in production from March to November. It grows a variety of heat-tolerant, culturally-relevant crops to supply the Mobile Farmers Market.
