Mandatory Qualifications

Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2024. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also viewed an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team. Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe and supportive environment for young children. 

  • Assisting teachers with carrying out lesson plans/curriculum. 

  • Helping children use the bathroom Handling basic hygiene needs such as handwashing.

  • Preparing children for and supervising them during naptime. 

  • Preparing and serving lunch or healthy snacks. 

  • Observing children for developmental problems and other concerns—and passing this information on to the preschool teacher 

  • Supporting preschool teachers with preferred classroom management and behavioral strategies

About the Business

Hens & Chicks Early Learning, LLC is a childcare with an infant & toddler program and
a preschool program located at two different sites. Our infant and toddler program
ranges from 6 months to 36 months old children. Our preschool program ranges from
2 1/2-5 year olds. Both programs are play-based and hands-on learning.

Preferred Abilities

Must have patience, be flexible and organized, have passion/desire to work with
children, and be enthusiastic.

Learning outcomes

  • Communication; creating meaningful open-ended conversations with the children.

  • Develop emotional support; help children develop warm, supportive relationships, experience enjoyment and excitement about learning, feel comfortable in the classroom, and experience appropriate levels of autonomy and independence.

  • Seek to incorporate creative and innovative teaching methods that engage young learners and stimulate their imaginations. This goal could involve using technology, arts, music, or nature-based learning to enrich the curriculum and provide a multifaceted educational experience.

  • Learning to be creative, observative about each child, and developing social emotional skills and support.

Special Project

Develop an age-appropriate lesson plan and implementing it for the week.
