Mandatory Qualifications
Interns must be 16 years old by June 10th, 2025. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor. All participants must have also participated in or watched a recording of an online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.
Responsibilities
Assist in maintaining the City's electronic content management system by scanning and reviewing documents to determine completeness and accuracy, assisting in public requests for information and records, assisting in preparing for public meetings, taking inventory and creating orders for office and meeting supplies, operating basic office equipment and software programs.
About the Business
The City Clerk's Office is responsible for the effective and efficient management of city information, providing a transparent and oriented administration. Amongst the fundamental duties is overseeing the official records of all city activities. This includes but is not limited to, city council meeting minutes, city ordinances, and resolutions, contracts, deeds, and others which constitute an integral part of a city’s legislative history.
Preferred Abilities
Someone who is comfortable verbally communicating with people would be ideal.
Learning outcomes
The intern will learn how local government is organized and operates to serve the community.
The intern will learn about California's Public Records Act and government transparency.
The intern will learn basic office and communication skills.
The intern will be working with various software programs and have an opportunity to learn about what other city departments do while working with the City Clerk's staff.
Special Project
The intern will conduct quality control screening of building permits that will be part of the City's Public Records Portal. This will provide the public additional access to public records and increase government transparency.
Additional Information
This is primarily a sedentary office position, although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Someone who is comfortable verbally communicating with people would be ideal.
